Sustainable living in Central Australia is essential due to the impacts of a changing climate. In Alice Springs rising fuel costs, warming temperatures, unpredictable weather patterns and a reliance on a non-renewable water supply means that we have to make changes if we want to live a healthy and economically attractive life.
It can be difficult to understand the changes we need to make due to the mainstream communication on Climate Change being political, confusing, negative or ill informed.
The community of Central Australia wants to lead a more sustainable life but they don’t necessarily have the time, energy, confidence or interest in actively researching or taking action on Climate Change.
Supported by the Northern Territory Government’s EnvironmeNT grants program, desertSMART COOLmob has developed 2 short community service announcements (CSAs) promoting healthy, desertSMART living in Alice Springs. The two CSA’s on cycling and vegetable gardening are on air on Imparja (channel 9) and Southern Cross (channel 7) from March 2012 until February 2013 – check them out on TV or here on our website!
This is a collaborative project between desertSMART COOLmob, EnvironmeNT, Bellette Media Agency, Climate Action Group and Alice Springs Youth Environment Network, with input gathered from the local community at the Alice Springs Show in July 2011.
